Debbie Lee - Candidate for Clerk Treasurer, City of Portage
I feel that my past experience makes me the best candidate for the position of Clerk Treasurer.
The issues I am concerned with are:
1. Open communication with all departments within the city.
2. Proper financial reporting.
3. Researching services that the city is outsourcing to determine feasibility.
4. Insuring that the city not lose any government funding because of negligence.
My name is Deborah Lee. I am currently a candidate for the office of Clerk Treasurer for the city of Portage. I am a lifelong resident of Portage. My father, Arthur Kaminski, was a successful Certified Public Accountant in Portage for many years and my mother, Mary Kaminski, proudly worked at the Anderson Company (ANCO) for 45 years. My parents taught me a strong work ethic, commitment and fierce loyalty.
I chose to follow in my fathers footsteps and pursue a higher education in accounting. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University Northwest and for the last 29 years I have worked in the field of public accounting. Working in this field includes preparing financial statements for various businesses, preparing budgets and reconciling bank accounts. It is also my job to insure that all government filings and taxes due are completed timely.
I understand the importance of deadlines as well as money management which are crucial to running a successful business. I am in contact with my clients at all times to discuss any financial decisions that may impact the success of their business.
The Clerk Treasurer has the ultimate responsibility of insuring that bills get paid, payroll gets processed timely, receivables are recorded properly and all government funding be accounted for. My accounting experience supports all of these functions.
