Brian Gensel is the current county Prosecuting Attorney. -------------------------------------------------------------- I have had the privilege of serving as a Prosecuting Attorney in Porter County for 30 years and have been the elected prosecutor for 12 years. I have literally prosecuted every type of criminal case: traffic, OWI, theft, burglary, juvenile delinquency, crimes of violence including domestic violence, white collar crime, drug crime, child molesting, murder, etc. My office has successfully partnered with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to bring violent criminals to justice.
I have cultivated a senior staff who average more than 20 years prosecution experience. I am on the Executive Board and serve on the Intelligence Subcommittee of the Indiana HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area taskforce) where strategies are implemented to halt the spread of drug crime in Northwest Indiana. I supervised the Porter County Narcotics Taskforce for over 10 years.
I was recently elected to the board of directors for the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council. I am on both the Porter County Community Corrections Advisory Board and the Porter County Evidence-Based Decision Making Committee where programs are implemented to address issues such as pre-trial release, drug addiction and mental illness among criminal defendants.
My office approves both Veteran’s Court and Drug Court participants. I am on the Porter County Child Protection Team, advising the Department of Child Services and I represent the Adult Protective Services agency responsible for protecting abused and neglected elderly citizens. I teach recruits at the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and taught Trial Skills at Valparaiso University School of Law.
I have coached scores of teens through Indiana High School Mock Trial and am an elder at Calvary Church of Valparaiso. My training, experience and community involvement make me uniquely qualified to continue as the Porter County Prosecutor.
