I am Cyndi Dykes, the Republican Candidate for Porter County Coroner. Living in Valparaiso for over 45 years, I have been a Certified Histology Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for 30 years, starting my career at Porter Memorial Hospital in 1981.
I stepped away from my career to raise 3 beautiful children with my husband of 33 years, Ed Dykes. During that time and to this day I continue to work with him at his family owned business of 67 years, Dykes Funeral Home. I presently work in the Pathology Department at Porter Regional Hospital.
I am a woman with strong family values with the utmost respect for Porter County citizens. I want to speak for the deceased by investigating and determining the cause of death, particularly that occur under unusual circumstances.
In the past, I have assisted in all varieties of autopsies alongside pathologists, coroners, and law enforcement. A coroner needs to set high standards for quality service, provide care and consolation to families in times of need, and lead a team of experts to find the cause and manner of death in a timely fashion so that families can begin to have closure, pursue insurance, estate and financial matters.
I will bring unique qualities to the coroner’s office from my experiences in the Pathology Department and funeral home. I want to continue the professionalism of the Coroner’s office with integrity, respect, and compassion. I will work hand in hand with all policing agencies and fire departments. I will be an advocate of prevention as to the cause of unnecessary deaths from what is plaguing our county.
Last, but not least, I will effectively manage budgets and demonstrate the conservative Republican values our county expects and deserves.
