Harvey Nix, Candidate County Commissioner (South District)
Harvey Nix has been a resident of Porter County for 50 years. He and his wife Cheryl have two sons, Eric and his wife have two children and Scott and his wife have one child.
Personal and Professional Experience In 1982 he was hired as Engineering Technician for the Porter County Soil and Water District. His job was to work with farmers with guidance from the Distric Conservationist who was a Federal employee to aid farmers in conservation practices they thought beneficial to their farming operation.
Harvey's Background Harvey gained his engineering qualifications through the guidance of engineers working for the Soil Conservation Service. In 2005 he was given the duty of reviewing construction plans sent to his office under the guidance of Indiana Department of Enviromental Management to make sure that plans submitted met guide lines established by that agency. Random inspections were chosen by IDEM to review those plans to see if Harvey was performing his duties. Field visits were made to insure erosion practices were being followed. Harvey served on the Porter County Drainage Board for 6 years appointed to that position by the County Commissioners. About Harvey Harvey and his wife Cheryl are members of the Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts for 50 years. Harvey has been a Sunday school teacher, Trustee and is Vice-President of the Mens Brotherhood group.
