Stephanie Kuziela - Candidate for Clerk Treasurer, Town of Chesterton
Clerk-Treasurer Kuziela is running for re-election this year and wishes to continue to serve the community that she loves to be a part of.
Ms. Kuziela has served the Town of Chesterton since 2009. She started part time as the Town Manager's Administrative Assistant, while attending Purdue North West full time for her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. The Town Council approved her full time status in February 2010. Initially her duties started with basic administrative tasks, which quickly expanded to being the Town’s social media & web master, grant administrator and was tasked to promote the 2010 Census.
After awhile the State of Indiana changed the requirements for annual reporting and budget submission, and Stephanie stepped up to the plate when asked to assist then Clerk-Treasurer, Gayle Polakowski, with the new electronic submission requirements. During this time, Stephanie attended monthly classes through Ball State and earned the Certified Public Supervisor accreditation. Clerk-Treasurer Polakowski retired midway through her term, and Stephanie was caucused in as Clerk-Treasurer effective January 1, 2014.
As Clerk-Treasurer, she became responsible for the Town’s finances (including payroll, accounts receivable and payable, and budgets) and one hundred twenty years of Chesterton’s records.
A few months into office, she completed her second Bachelor's degree, this time in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. Stephanie serves as Chesterton’s representative on the Joint Board of Delegates for the Shared Ethics Advisory Commission and is one of the ethics trainers of the Town employees. Ms. Kuziela won re-election in 2015.
In December of 2016, Stephanie completed her most proud accomplishment, she donated her left kidney to a friend. In 2017, she was honored by the Northwest Indiana Influential Women with the Up & Coming Woman in Government award. Ms. Kuziela also serves on the Porter County Central Committee as Chair of District 1.
Stephanie works to continuously streamline and update processes keeping the town up-to-date with current technology and reporting.
Upcoming projects include: seeking quotes for banking services to ensure Chesterton is obtaining the best interest rates and services available and researching ways to improve the town's document retention system.
During the warm months, you can find Stephanie at the European Market; visiting Chesterton’s downtown shops; or in her garden with her rescue, Zosia.
