Barb Regnitz, Candidate for County Commissioner

With a multifaceted and extensive work history, Barb is uniquely prepared to fill the position of Porter County Commissioner. From her time as a teacher, to 16 years in IT as a software engineer and project implementation manager, to another 16 years as a financial advisor and Certified Financial Planner®, Barb’s broad skillset will enhance the governance of Porter County.

Being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars is of utmost importance. As a financial advisor Barb was responsible for putting together sound financial plans so that her clients didn’t risk outliving their assets. Barb will take those same skills to make certain the county is responsibly spending taxpayer dollars. “With the high cost of living being top of mind for voters right now, we, as elected officials, need to be especially careful with tax revenues. We must ensure they are allocated towards the highest priority, essential services under the county’s jurisdiction.”

Barb places a high value on community involvement and actively gives back to the community she loves. Barb is a Valparaiso Chamber civic member, and an active member and board member of the Valparaiso Rotary Club and the Valparaiso Rotary Foundation. She also serves as the treasurer and a certified mentor of the Northwest Indiana SCORE chapter. She and her husband are big supporters of the Rotary Library Garden, the Shirley Heinz Land Trust, Opportunity Enterprises and the Porter County Community Foundation.
“I have such a commitment to be of service to the community and this is a perfect opportunity to apply all of my skills and experience to enhance the lives of everyone in Porter County,” says Barb. “I have a tremendous amount of energy and passion and truly care about people and their hopes and dreams.”

Public engagement and transparency will play a central role in Barb’s service as commissioner. “Porter County taxpayers deserve public officials who understand the real value of involving the community while forming partnerships with the public and businesses. All too often we see government officials who believe that they know best and have little to no appreciation for public engagement or the transparency that comes with involving the public. As county commissioner, I will change that. I will always engage and listen to the citizens of Porter County.”

Barb and her husband, Tim, have been married for 44 years and have one daughter, Tricia, who lives in Chicago. Barb is a graduate of Purdue University with a BS and BA in Math and German. She enjoys gardening, contra dancing and singing with the Sweet Adelines.
