Cyndi Dykes, Candidate for County Coroner 2022
I am Cyndi Dykes seeking re-election for Porter County Coroner.
I have been a resident of Porter County since 1972 living in Valparaiso and graduated from Valparaiso High School. My husband and I have been married for 37 years. We’ve raised 3 children and became grandparents in 2019. I became a certified Histology Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathology in 1983 after starting my career at Porter Memorial Hospital in 1981. I became a certified Medicolegal Death Investigator with the State of Indiana in 2019. Along with my duties as coroner, I have continued working in the Pathology Department at NW Health Porter Hospital as well as assisting my husband at his family-owned funeral home. |

During my term as coroner, I have built a strong team of 11 deputies serving the county 24/7, 365 days a year. I have re-established positive relationships with the police and fire agencies whom we work closely with during death investigations.
I have saved the county $24,000.00 last year in autopsy fees by implementing a Memorandum of Understanding with my pathologist. My turn-around time for toxicology results are within 6 weeks now instead of 3 months.I have brought in grant dollars to our office by establishing, alongside the Porter County Prosecutor, a state mandated Child Fatality Review Team. The office also receives grant money by being involved in the Opioid Fatality Review Team. My deputies are involved in many agencies throughout the county including the Substance Abuse Council and Drunk Driving Task Force. If re-elected, I want to pursue a county morgue and accreditation of the coroner’s office by the National Association of Medical Examiners. I have ensured high standards, efficiency and continued professionalism of the coroner’s office. I am hoping to have this humbling opportunity to continue my service to Porter County with integrity, respect and compassion. JOIN THE CAMPAIGN!
